Newbury Town House

An outdoor room leading from the kitchen/dining room of this town house into a relatively maintenance free garden combining raised flower and vegetable beds was the specification for this customer’s west facing garden. Rectory cobbled paving was laid to surround the rear and side of the house with the colour chosen to complement the kitchen/dining flags making the outdoor space a true extension to the inside. Strong city garden style fencing with raised beds and retaining walls rendered and white-washed and topped with terra-cotta brick edging provided a Mediterranean feel to contain the sun-trapped space. A natural curve to the brickwork was incorporated into a facing retaining wall to better feature a tall structured plant growing from behind. This feature was echoed in the design of the stainless steel roof members of the pergola that spanned the seating area to allow the eventual clothing by climbing plants to retain a lightness of construction and maintain a modern feel to the space
